My C.V.

Research

My interests include machine learning methods, computational statistics, statistical methods for large datasets, and high performance computing.

Dissertation Title: Regularization: Stagewise Regression and Bagging.
Thesis Advisor: Hemant Ishwaran

Presentations

Modeling with Prediction Errors presentation given to graduate student seminar on March 3, 2008 (some updates on 3/6)

I introduce Breiman's Out-Of-Bag estimation concept with a simulation.

Grid Computing: Improving Analysis Throughput With Parallel Computing Presentation given at Cleveland Clinic introducing cluster computing and describing the scientific computing cluster we use for our analysis.

Who am I?

I wear a lot of hats... this is a list of the ones that take up most of my time.

Lead Systems Analyst - The Cleveland Clinic Foundation I work for the Heart & Vascular Institute clinical investigations group. I maintain a statistical package that is currently tightly bound to SAS. The package has a website that describes what we're doing. I'm also the programming "jack-of-all" trades/system administrator. I develop applications using Java, C/C++, and a collection of web technologies for whatever it is people want to do.

Graduate Student - Statistics Department at Case Western Reserve University Part of my preparation for the programming effort required for my job led me to the Ph.D program in Statistics... I started in fall of 2003. I advanced to candidacy in August of 2007. I hope to finish someday soon (Expected: May 2010).

Family man Speaking of "jack-of-all trades", I have a wife and 3 children... and we live in a house.

Bicycle Racer In whatever spare time I have left, I like to ride my bicycle, a lot. I enjoy racing with the Spin / RR Donnelly team. I race road bikes, mountain bikes and Cyclocross! It's an obsession. I also like to write about my races... you can check out my race writings on this site. Since I like to do well when I race, I have to spend quite a bit of time during the week actually training. I use that time to do a lot of my more abstract thinking. True multitasking!

At some point, I'd like to put up some of my research interests, and maybe some helpful links to software and programming sites. Maybe when I get a little bit more extra time.
